Whip Gadget (9042)
This is an odd one, because of the separate shaft. I always thought this was a buggy whip cane, because it would be hard to carry the shaft when you are riding. The typical buggy whip goes together to make a long whip, then put it inside when you got where you are going. I always thought of these being carried when you needed a cane when you got to where you were going. As I started to write about this one, the concept of using the whip just to go for a ride, came to mind, which is now what I think it was for. I can see why there are whip collectors, the weaving of the horse hair on them is a work of art. The figural bronze dog, a knobkerry, adds to its interest. Last quarter of the nineteenth century. It's hard to find other ways to say 1890.
