Bakelite Parrot In Telescoping Shaft (8916)

The figural anamals were hand carved, and I think always go up. They were a quality material, and a quality carving. I've found a number of supposedly bakelite handles, turning out not to be so. They were an early form of plastic and so proven to be so by simicrome. When you rub a little cream on the cloth turns yellow. If it doesn't turn yellow its not bakelite. I also recommend buying by condition. The purple cloth on this one is mint as is the deco color on the exotic wood veneer on the shaft. As of the moment, this would bring more if the handle was put on a cane shaft. I think in time, the umbrellas that are original will be worth more as rarity will win out over current ignorance.
