 Gun Cleaning With Ram Rod With Replaceable Handle (8674)
This cane is the beginning of 6 canes that do similar but different things to load guns or clean them. I chose this as the first, because of how much I like the interchangeable handle and what it says about the person who owned it. In any language this is a dress cane because of the rosewood shaft and matching rosewood handle that exchanges with a handle that has 2 gun cleaners and a screw driver that extends from the handle. The shaft is also a ram rod that has a flat flaring brass ferrule to ram the ball down the barrel to seat it into the powder. The ferrule also screws apart to reveal a screw that becomes an easy out for the ball if the powder charge fails to discharge the ball. When the handles are removed the gun cleaners can be attached to the handle end of the shaft for cleaning a 30” barrel. Both the ferrule and cleaners will work on a 45 caliber or larger percussion rifle, but not smaller. This cane was carried by a gun lover who when traveling wanted to have the ability to care for his weapon. There would be no need for a cane like this near home. Maybe it was used to care for a gun carried in a carriage or a wealthy hunter.
