18th Century Pommender, With Pen & Ink (8472)

Brass was the most common metal 18th century items were made from. Only the wealthy could aford silver or ivory. A brass cane like this is well made on a full bark malacca shaft with matching ferrule, I believe this is doctors pomander. The pen stores in the handle with a knife blade. Both the pen and the blade screw on the handle. The knife is for cutting the looped pages of books. There is also a ink well as part of the handle. Every part is handmade, fits together perfectly, and was well thought out. The most important telltail that its that old, is the weight. It feels right.
