Doctors Cane With Two Purposes (8458)
This has the general purpose as the tiffanys doctors, as it has two compartments in the top of the handle for pills. Below is the same funnel and glass measuring glass. In the top part of the shaft is two bottles for powdered medicine. I had to do some work to figure out what the other two bottles were for as they have ground stoppers. In the ferrule is a silver tube with three items. A glass test tube and small float with numbers, a torch that screws out of the bottom, and a syringe that comes out of the center when the tube is twisted. In talking to a doctor, he said all the items go together to test blood sugar level for diabettics. The bottom of the handle is signed Albert Barker Ld., 5.Bond St., London.W. The shaft is a large full bark malacca, with sterling handchased threads on both the handle and the shaft. The hallmark in london is for 1908. The detail on this handle is uncommon, it's Louis the 16th.
