Rosewood And Brass Bow Drill (8319)

Signed Buck on Court Rd., inside the handle, along with the mechanism that makes it spin like a top.
English 1850 to 1880, with all matching rosewood shaft, handle and original ferrule. I looked for an original bit for 10 years and I still don't know if this one is right. They are rarer than the drill, and this one is called a spoon bit. For those of you who do not know how a bow drill works, a string is tied to one end of the shaft, wrapped around the drill several times, then tied around the other end. The shaft is moved back and forth with one hand, while the other holds the drill.
