Barometer in Handle (8213)

Undocumented by Dike or anyone else for that matter. Lets talk about this one. Entire handle is brass. Top screws off to allow barometer to be removed from handle. There is a hole on one side of handle and a hook on the Circa 1900 barometer. These were uaually for pocket use during hiking. To tell the heigth above sea level for oxygen needs not wheather its going to rain. Its generally what I call a handle made for another use. The question would usually be,
when was it put on the cane. See gadget cane philosophy in cane forum.
This mechanism doesn't make sense to be a pocket barometer put on a shaft. The outer case, which is definately original, locks the inner one in place, and would have no purpose on a pocket barometer. The shaft is German with a number of city placks, and a hiking ferrule.
