Sardonyx Stone Cameo (9124)
This sardonyx stone cameo is carved from one layer to another. If you see a two
piece cameo its probably not natural. This is a hard stone to carve compared to the more common shell cameos you usually see in jewelry and on canes. These are near impossible to install after the the original date. Bezels put on on gold filled presentation handles would have to be soldiered. You can’t soldier with the lacquer or any lead filling inside. Leads melts easily, but it puts holes in the metal from a chemical reaction and destroys the handle. Not to say it never could be done, but the percentage of handles it could be done on would be very limited and more work than it would be worth. Just a reminder about gold quartz. It must have a bevel on the stone and be mounted in a bezel that’s gold soldiered on and come about half way up on the stone. If there is no bezel it’s not original.
