Very Ornate Ivory Chris Pistol Grip Shaped Handle (9169)

Heres a lesson on antique ivory, look at the even yellow patena on this one. No blothy or uneven color from tea stains or antiquing. The carving is of the highest quality and there are cutouts that go all the way thru the handle. There was a huge amount of work on this one. The horse on the front of the handle has wings and is perfectly carved. Im told a chris is a knife and this is the shape they come in. It fits perfectly on this antique full bark malacca shaft with horn ferrule, but no guarantees wheather it was always on it or it was added. Its early, probably around 1860 and very beautiful. Its amazing how smooth these microscopic carvings are.
