Mr. Dykes Display of Different Materials once belonging to his mother Catherine Dike. (8895)

Mr. Dike had this cabinet made to match the iron antique one in wood to display all the different materials shafts are made from. His favorate in this display is a glass one he has early memories of. The beautiful material in the background of this one matches the one with ivories. As they are in opposite ends of the house, the matching cabinets ties the collection together. I didn't count the number of canes in this one, but there must be over fifty. Some are displayed in one direction and some the other for balance and fit, as some of the handles and shafts are large, like the stingray shaft, one of my favorates. Displaying the canes this way is unique to him, as they were never displayed this way in any of her books. To me, this rich display of many different colors and textures, is better than a famous and valuable painting.
