Worlds Greatest Surveyors Tripod Cane (8608)
I purchased this last week, Sept. 2006, and believe it is the greatest tripod surveyors cane there is. Not only is it very complicated, but is very well made. The piece that attaches to the top of the tripod is missing at the moment, but I will find it as I know how it works. The Surveyors museum is in Lansing Michigan, and they have an incredible collection of surveying instruments, and they have helped me to understand the surveying canes I have. None of them hold a candle to this one. Most cane tripods are for cameras and are 1" or so. Surveying tripods are much rarer and larger. This one is over 2", qualifying it for the big canes for big men’s book. I already know what it looks like. From its ornate ness I would date this undocumented tripod at 1880.
