Western Paper Microscope Kalamazoo (8185)
This is one of the most complicted gadgets I have seen. Also complicated because of the Michigan user. My guess is Western Paper Manufacturers ordered this custom made from a German company. The Microscope is German, compass on top German, and malacca shaft. The rarest piece is the core auger that comes apart to measure year rings for age of the tree and probably desease. These were illegal because they could kill the tree. The core was put in a glass tube for microscope. Circa 1890. Kalamazoo, Michigan was famous for lumber and the by product of paper.
