When I bought this cane I was told it was used to test cream, because it has a rod going thru the handle that has a stopper on it. Today I really don't know if its a seed tester or a cream tester. No other tester cane has a rod like this or a gold presentation handle. The long iron ferrule that goes to a point would seem suited to being pushed thru the mesh of a burrlap grain or seed bag. It would also limit the depth of cream from a milk can. Handle is beautiful with great patena on all the brass and iron. Circa 1880
